Retirement Communities

Independent Living Communities are often referred to as Retirement Communities, Congregate Living or Senior Apartments. They are similar to any apartment, condominium, or single-family development, except that they provide special services, including security—an important consideration for many residents who are able to live on their own, but desire the conveniences of community living.

Most independent living communities do not offer health care services (such as those provided, for example, by assisted living communities and nursing facilities), but many communities will allow you to pay for a home health aide or nurse to come into your apartment to assist you with medicines and personal care.

Medicare and Medicaid do not cover payment since no healthcare is provided.
